Stowe

a must-visit National Trust location

A visit to Stowe - a vast Capability Brown designed National Trust landscape garden - on a relatively grey January day can only be described as a scouting trip, for the famous ‘Stowebells’ are soon to make an appearance! Here’s a mini photographic story of my visit, with images taken on my Nikon F301 35mm camera, using Lomography Colour Negative film (have a look at some other photos I took in my review of the film here).

Stowe House dominates the view from Octagon Lake; walk in either direction around the lake to discover over forty notable points of interest in the landscape!

The Cascade & Artificial Ruins are a bit of a wonder - nothing artificial looking about them! You can almost walk right to the end of the cascade to the water's edge.

The Temple of Ancient Virtue...

...sits just across from Shell Bridge, with views over the offshoot of Octagon Lake; just behind it is nestled St Mary's Church - also worth a visit as it remains a working parish church, though the village of Stowe no longer exists.

The Gothic Temple has to be one of my favourite additions to the landscape...just look at that architecture! This is one of those cool National Trust locations you can hire to stay in, so unfortunately you can't mill around inside.
